“रात हमारी तो, चाँद की सहेली है
कितने दिनों के बाद, आई वो अकेली है”

I still remember listening to this song at the age of 9, and building up vivid images of the beautiful city of Kolkata, as portrayed by the amazing Bollywood classic, Parineeta (a story based in Kolkata).

I always had this curiosity within me to explore this city by myself and capture it one day. My wish was granted when I got the opportunity to stay in this very city for around 7 days, thanks to the national jury being held there where I had to present my designs.

Though I visited most of the famous spots when I got the time, I had a crazy desire to go through its street which exhibits the raw beauty of the city. Streets, as ever gives an intricate detail of the architecture of a particular city as you walk through it. They depict variations of its storyline that it has encompassed throughout history.

So, one night, the day after my birthday and the final jury, I and my friend went out of our hotel by 8.30 and led a quite adventurous walk throughout the streets of “Harish Mukherjee Road” until legit 11.30 pm. We saw the change in the pace of the traffic with the passage of night and envisioned the kinds of commuters who travel through the very lane.

Influenced by colonial times, the architecture of Kolkata has its own identity. Be it its culture or the people who mold it, every corner is filled with the combination of blue-white-yellow colors, reflecting a beautiful composition, especially during the nights. I hope my pictures could reflect what I intend to say here:

The magic of yellow
The Busy Lane
Typical Kolkata
The goddess on her way.
A tanga in the middle of nowhere
The Enthusiastic Tangawala
The Two Opposites
The Lone Cab
Mai Bhi Durga
A Cab in a Rainy Night
